🍂 Description

The Autumn Crown looks like the fairytale cousin of the traditional tan pumpkin. It’s compact, deeply ribbed, and its light beige skin is dusted with a silvery bloom that gives it that vintage “heirloom” glow. Its skin resembles a smaller Crown Prince, but the flesh is a deeper apricot color with a richer in flavor. Inside, it’s smooth, non-stringy, and beautifully dense. We find it is perfect for baking or savory dishes.

This variety is sometimes called the mini Crown Prince. It offers all the elegance of the larger type, but in a more manageable kitchen size. It has a squat, fluted shape that looks gorgeous in still-life displays or autumn table centerpieces. Its one of those understated pumpkins that looks like it belongs in an oil painting.

🌰 Fun Facts

    •    It was bred in the UK to combine the flavor of Crown Prince with the compact shape of smaller French varieties.

    •    Its silvery bloom develops best in cooler autumn air — a natural “powder” that makes it photogenic.

    •    The flesh is naturally sweeter after a week or two of curing post-harvest.

🥧 Edible Notes

The flavor is sweet, nutty, and smooth, much like butternut but silkier. When roasted, the flesh caramelizes beautifully, and its natural sugars deepen. It purées easily, making it a baker’s dream for pies or custards. Because the rind is thin and tender, it’s also easy to cut compared to many winter squash.

🧺 Storage & Display Tips

    •    Cure in a warm, dry place for about 10 days to extend shelf life.

    •    Once cured, store in a cool, airy spot (ideally 50–55°F).

    •    For décor: pair it with muted blues, creams, and dried wheat tones for a soft farmhouse palette.

    •    Handle gently because the delicate bloom can rub off with rough contact.

🍽️ Use It In

    •    Roasted Wedges: Slice into crescents, drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle sea salt + cinnamon, roast at 400°F for 25–30 min.

    •    Autumn Soup: Roast cubes, then blend with broth, onion, and a touch of cream for a velvety soup.

    •    Pumpkin Purée: Bake halves cut-side down until tender, scoop, and purée — perfect for pies or muffins.

    •    Savory Mash: Steam and mash with butter, garlic, and nutmeg for a cozy dinner side.
